Homeward Grants & Services simplifies the process of starting and maintaining missions and ministry efforts anywhere in the world. If you are a missionary or evangelist called to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, we make it easier than ever to answer that call.

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

HELPING YOU FOCUS ON WHAT MATTERS MOST

What We Offer

Grants

Homeward Grants allows qualified ministers to receive financial support for both ministry and personal expenses. Donations received into your dedicated grant fund are distributed to you as a grant in support of your ministry work.

Because you can elect to receive the grant as an individual, you do not need to setup a non-profit, apply for licenses or tax exemption, or maintain any organizational presence in the US. And your donors receive full 501c(3) tax treatment on their donations; we send their donation receipts.

We structure our grant agreement with you to be dynamic, so that you can continue receiving grants as long as you are engaged in Christian ministry, even if the specifics of your ministry changes. In other words, you can work with different organizations, relocate to a different region, or change your ministry focus at any time without any disruption of your finances or communication with your donors. We disburse grants to bank accounts and digital wallets in 140+ nations.

Homeward does not replace the grantee’s missions organization or network.

Services

Homeward Services provides a virtual administrative office for overseas missionaries, so that when you are on the field there’s a team in the U.S. supporting your operational needs. We provide the following out of our New York City offices for qualified missionaries:

  • Mail handling, scanning, and notification

  • A US business phone number for your exclusive use and call handling/answering (may have extra cost)

  • An official business address for correspondences and government filings

  • Accounting and financial reporting

  • Basic support for management of personal finances, travel, and insurance

  • Coordination and operational support during personal emergencies, such as a medical event or an urgent need to evacuate out of the region you work in

 FAQs

  • All grantees operate independently of Homeward. We document the nature of the work that you are doing in our Grant Agreement, and we provide you a financial and operational infrastructure which allows you to complete that work. From time to time (usually annually), we are required by law to require you to report your activities to us for the sole purpose of insuring that the granted funds were used for the proper purposes.

On a day to day basis, you still work with the missions organization you belong to (or, independently, if you prefer). You do not answer to us, nor do we control your ministry activities - except to verify that you are actually doing the ministry which we’ve agreed you would do.

  • All Homeward programs are intended to keep resources “on the field”. Therefore, fees and expenses are generally lower than comparable solutions and mainly reflect the costs we incur to provide the services.

As we scale to more minister grantees, we expect to add features and improve our infrastructure without materially increasing fees.

  • The aim of Homeward is not to make a profit but rather to support and sustain overseas missions. Our fees are only enough to allow us to continue providing world-class infrastructure to our missionary grantees. Operational resources and support is also provided by our parent church.

  • No, in fact for many missionaries that is a strategic advantage of working with Homeward Grants. We underwrite grants to qualified ministers so that there is no need to maintain any organization or entity - along with the attendant government filings, board meetings, disclosures, reports, etc. - to be a missionary. Of course, you may need an organization in your target nation to own buildings or hire staff when the ministry reaches a certain scale, but initially all you need to do is go.

As funds are raised to support your work, we disburse grants to your personal accounts (including qualified overseas accounts) which allow you to pay for ministry and reasonable daily life expenses.

You also always have the choice of receiving your grants into a non-profit. For instance, if your missions organization requires that your support be distributed through them, that is also supported by Homeward Grants.

We allow individuals, teams, and organizations of all sizes and complexities to raise grants in a financially efficient manner.

  • It can be helpful to have a choice of whom to work with. In many cases, there are advantages to receiving grants from us in addition to your existing support infrastructure. For instance, your may have a secondary ministry focus which you want to fund apart from your primary ministry; your primary sponsor may not give you sufficient flexibility on raising personal funds; or you may need a partner able to handle complex gifts (i.e. international transfers, financial assets, etc.).

Through our Services platform, we also provide integrated services which aren’t covered in most “sending church” relationships. For instance, if your donations exceed your operating needs, we create a pool of “grants in waiting” for you which earn competitive returns until you request a disbursement. Alternatively, if foreign exchange rates are suddenly advantageous, we can pre-position funds in your target currency.

Our grants are typically assigned to you, as the individual grantee doing the ministry work, so you are eligible to receive grants designated by donors for you no matter where you go or what you do, as long as your work continues to satisfy your Grant Agreement. You no longer need to worry about transitions in ministry because you may continue receiving payments without interruption as long as you continue to meet our grant standards.

  • There are no limits on how much ministry expenses may be granted.

We do not support grants of personal expenses to any individual in excess of $1 million per year, with lower initial limits which may be lifted, subject to review.
